First Full Day of School

If today was any indicator if how the rest of my year is going to go, I only have to say that it’s going to be pretty darn eventful.

Starting off, it was my mother’s birthday today. After being thankful that it wasn’t mine (who would want the first day of school as their birthday?), I woke her up with happy birthday wishes. Presents and cake came later in the day. Soon afterward, I had to leave for school. I get to drive this year since I now have my own car, which is so much more liberating compared to the bus. I had to be at the school by 7:00 for a student council meeting. I managed to make it in the room 30 seconds before being considered tardy.

In homeroom, a friend (not a close one, but a friend nonetheless) received a call in which he was informed his uncle had passed away in the hospital. Usually, I’m not very good at consoling people after a breakup. This time was no different even though it was infinitely worse than a high school breakup. I tried as much as I could to be there for him before asking him if he needed to go to the councilor; thankfully, he agreed. I truly wanted to be there to comfort him, but I’ve never been through the situation. Yes, I’ve been affected by death of family just never anyone extremely close to me. While saying, “I’m sorry,” is always great, he needed someone who at least understood more than I. I’m glad he went.

First period wasn’t short of its own special kind of weirdness. I really wanted to go up to my ex and tell her that I find it incredibly stupid to ignore each other. In the end, I couldn’t bring myself, making me feel like an even bigger wimp. Still, I resolve to do this quite soon. On a side note, my teacher called me “Buffalo Head.” It’s okay, though. I knew him before he was my teacher, so I know how he picks on people. Besides a deceptive clock, second period was uneventful. Third was as well until after lunch when my Freshman English teacher asked me to help her set up her computer to her TV. I fixed it in about five minutes, and she let me stay in there for the rest of the class. I ended up borrowingTuck Everlastingfrom her, planning to raid her shelf book by book as the year goes along.

So, for a first day, it wasn’t half bad. Except for lunch. Lunch freaking sucked. End of rant.
